Traditional pubs are still the most common type in Ireland being an important social meeting place offering good beer and a cosy place for a good conversation. Pubs are allowed stay open until 1am from Thursdays to Saturdays and 11.30am during the rest of the week. The larger towns and cities have more modern type places as well, including some continental-style bars, discos and of course nightclubs. Dublin, with its young working population has probably one of the most eventful nightlife scenes in the coutry having everything from traditional pubs playing Irish music to massive international bars and trendy nightclubs. Some clubs and bars don't welcome those who are too casually dressed (battered sneakers or runners in particular) so pay attention to your outfit.
